Painted Sun was one of the first film scores I worked on. It was recorded to a 4-track cassette and borrowed DAT at Purchase College. Featured performers on this score include Pat Gubler (PG-Six, Tower Recordings) on flutes, shakuhachi, harmonica and piano, and Bob Hoffnar on dobro and electric bass. In addition to scoring the cues, and composing themes, I also recorded background music – classical guitar music by Lauro and Giuliani, Jazz standards for the party scene, and bar band blues for the Governor Bradford scene.
Note: the film was edited after the music was recorded, so some of the excerpts did not make it into the final cut.
About the film: In this movie directed by Gary Wortzel co-directed with Sheri Stewart, unscrupulous artists get involved with an art forgery scam in Provincetown, Cape Cod. Great performance here by Charles Duffy as Mac the old master with a drinking problem. Co stars Marshall Wood and Melissa Glassman with special cameo by Hal Streib the actual bartender from the Govenor Bradford. Art direction by Mari Porcari. Cinematography by Luis Marin.
