This short film is based loosely on director/writer Andrzej Zulawski’s 1983 film ‘Possession’ starring Sam Neil and Isabel Adjani, with original music for the film composed by legendary polish composer Andrzej Korzyński.
As Korzyński’s original score was critical to the mood of the film, an attempt was made to duplicate the original sounds and instrumentation. The music is slightly different than the original, so consider it an hommage.
Much of the recreation of the two cues, The Night The Screaming Stops (Opening Titles) and Helen Has Green Eyes was done with samplers and synths, but there are also live performances of tin whistle, electric guitar and piano.
UK label Finders Keepers released Korzynsk’s soundtrack to Possession. It’s great to hear this, and see the titles of the pieces that we tried to re-create back in 2004.
The original recordings are really cool, the instrumentation is quite unique and the whole score captures the completely baffling mood of the film.
The remakes benefit from some modern recording techniques and synth samples, so are generally more hi-fi. When these were transcribed, there was no soundtrack release, so everything had to be listened to through the soundtrack on the film which includes the ambient sounds of walking, screaming, and noise, so there are some interesting innaccuracies.
